An abandoned little dog who found a loving home in a senior living facility.
For several months, 7-year-old Shih Tzu Chewy lived on the streets of Austin unloved, lonely, and frightened.
He survived the traffic, scavenged for food and water and at night was subject to the cold and rain and to being eaten by wild predators such as urban coyotes and bobcats.
Then last January evening, an employee of The Philomena, a senior living facility, took him home and the next day brought Chewy into work.
The first order of business was for Chewy to be examined and treated by a vet. But also, to see if he was microchipped with the name and address of his human companion.

"When they called the original owner, the owner said they didn't want him back," Priscilla Duran, the executive director of The Philomena told The Washington Post.
But The Philomena residents thought he was adorable and welcomed him in. "We're all attached to him," said resident Linda Brisentine, 83 to The Post.
They named him "Chewy" after the Star Wars character Chewbacca, because when they rescued him, "he was so overgrown and matted and dirty; he looked like Chewbacca," said Priscilla.
"When he comes out, everybody just stops what they're doing," said Charlene Spencer, 79. "He is so good for us, and we're certainly good for him...We're all his relatives."
As for hospice patients, Chewy cuddles with them for as long as they like.
"He loves people. He wants to be around them," said Priscilla. Adding, "We rescued him, and he turned around and started repaying the favor 10 times over."
