May 11th, was a special day for Cecilia Hernandez who suffers from major heart and immune system issues, as she graduated from Rollins College with a Chemistry degree.
Given her medical limitations, Cecilia defied the odds to graduate, something that would have been impossible without her marvelous service dog Canela.
Here is their story:

At the graduation commencement ceremony, in recognition of her services, Canela received a special patch, as the audience cheered for her.
"My service dog received a special patch for her vest in recognition of her hard work at graduation," Cecilia wrote in an Instagram post on May 13, alongside a video from the ceremony.
Adding:
"Having a service dog in chemistry is nearly unheard of. It required many, many training sessions just to get her used to wearing PPE [Personal Protective Equipment]."
"As I did research for an undergraduate thesis, this required even longer days in the lab." Canela was alongside Cecilia to quickly spot any medical flare-ups.
This meant in the lab, Canela was required to wear protective equipment such as safety googles, booties and a protective vest.

Now that Cecilia has her Bachelor's Degree, what comes next?
Cecilia is enrolling at the University of Central Florida to pursue a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Of course, Canela will be by her side.
