It came in the final play of the homecoming game. In front of a large crowd Wes was put into the game to play running back.
The ball was snapped to the quarterback, who handed the ball off to Wes. In front of a wall of blockers, he took off down field.
Everyone knew this play was coming, and it was projected he would run about 5-yards. But what no-one expected was Wes would keep running, as the other team cleared out for him.
Yard after yard he ran as the crowd stood and cheered, and he ran all the way into the endzone for a touchdown.
Both teams ran over and congratulated him in a remarkable show of brotherhood, as Wes then jumped into the arms of one of his coaches and was carried off the field.
Had Wes earned this opportunity?
"If you come to practice every day ... and you put in the work, we're going to find a spot for you on the field," another of his coaches proudly stated.
Wes was there every day, worked hard and won his place on the field, a place of honor.
