In desperation, a stray dog turns to strangers to save her puppies.
Katie Simon, whose home in Jamestown, Tennessee abuts a forest, saw something odd moving through that forest and heading for her.
It was a mother and her white puppy. "It was this little white thing bouncing up and down through the grass," Katie told The Washington Post.
With her and her husband having five dogs, Katie sensed immediately that this dog was a stray.
The mommy and her puppy were hungry and filthy, and Katie washed and fed them.

Mommy was scrawny, had overgrown nails, cracked paw pads and was nervous around people. She had no collar.
Seeking their human companion, Katie posted on social media but no-one claimed them.
Meanwhile, mommy brought three additional puppies, and then added two more. Overrun with seven new dogs, Katie appealed to Best Friends Sanctuary for help in placing them.
Best Friends supplied food, antibiotics and dewormer but could not take mommy and her puppies for three more weeks. And as an abused dog, mommy might be hard to place.
So, in the interim, the Simons offered the pups a loving home. And their daughter Ashlee became attached to mommy.
"I met her and was like, 'immediately yes,'" said Ashlee. "She is really smiley, she's a big tail wagger." Ashlee named her Sadie Mae, and brought her home.
"Meet Sadie Mae!" she wrote on social media site Threads.
"She's had a few litters, is probably between 2-4 years old, and clearly wasn't ever allowed in anyone's house before."
So, does our story have a happy ending?
Said Ashlee, "She's the sweetest dog, and she has hit the jackpot finding a childless millennial who is now going to spoil her for the rest of forever."
