Sabrina Ma: The difference kindness can make
While a high school sophomore in San Jose, California, Sabrina was a troubled student.
She was doing poorly in school, lacked self-confidence, had a sense of “purposeless” and even felt suicidal
Then she had a remarkable idea.

She and her friend Hannah Pham formed a club called ARK (Acts of Random Kindness) and transformed their lives and the lives of many other students with kind acts.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, they made survival kits for homeless people and they created an inspirational video targeting other students.
Then words such as, “You look amazing today,” and “I’m glad you exist,” written on clothes pins turned up all over school, including on backpacks and shirts.
On another day, club members gave out dozens of mandarin oranges on “Cuties for Cuties” day.
And the kind acts by club members continue, as club members coordinate with each other, using a cell phone app.
They include group hugs, hi-fiving other students, giving compliments and creating loving posters for those who still struggle.
This was so well-received, that the club rapidly grew from 10-members to 300, and what began at Sabrina’s high school spread to 40-other schools.
