Robert Adler: Creator of a popular product that has brought convenience to many millions of people.
Robert (1913 â€" 2007) was a brilliant physicist and inventor who as an Austrian Jew, escaped the Nazis and the Holocaust during World War ll.
Arriving in the U.S. in 1941, he joined Zenith Electronics, where from his brilliance he eventually rose to Vice President and Director of Research. Ultimately, he had 58 U.S. Patents.
But it was in 1956, Robert revolutionized a product that today is in common use all over the world. What is it?
(Story continues from "Read More")
Wireless TV remotes.
He made them practical, affordable and easy to use and they caught on. You likely have one or more of them in your home.
How did he make them practical, affordable and easy?
Zenith considered using radio waves to change channels. But those waves could travel through walls, changing channels on every TV in the home or in a neighbor’s home.
Robert solved this problem by using sound waves to transmit signals to the TV. In the 1960’s, he updated this technology to use ultrasonic signals.
His ultrasonic technology would be in common use for the next 25-years.
So, the next time you are comfortably seated and channel surfing, think of this brilliant physicist and inventor, and perhaps you could thank him with a toast or a munchie in his honor.
