It took a village to rescue Hank, a 1 1/2 year old kitty.
Hank's human companion, Delores Bushong, 74 of Northeast Washington, DC got him from a rescue center. He is a loving pet companion.
But on November 6th, Hank began "Hank's big adventure."
(Story continues from "Read More")
Hank climbed a 60-foot-tall tree, and couldn't get down. He was terrified! For five days and four nights he had no food or water, and he cried.
"It really required a lot of people coming together and trying an incredible number of different things to get Hank out of that tree," Delores told The Washington Post.
About three dozen people tried to lure Hank down.
"I could hear him crying, and my neighbors could hear him crying, Delores told The Post. "I think it really got to people's hearts."
In their hearts was the answer. The owner of EJ's Pest Control, provided a ladder tall enough to rescue Hank.
Then the Humane Rescue Alliance got involved. Using ropes and strings around a branch, they attached a small crate.
In the crate they placed catnip, a cat scratch pad, a blanket and a pair of Delores' slippers. Hank sniffed it, checked it and leaped into the crate.
When he neared the ground, Delores wrapped her arms around him, and he lovingly purred. She brought him home, where he ate, drank and then slept on his favorite chair.
"I can't believe how many people went out of their way to help me with this cat," said Delores.
"It made me feel good that I live in a neighborhood where people would help to do whatever they could to get him down. It gave me hope."
