Last February, Kim Doggett of Gretna, Nebraska bought the Costco chocolate cake, which no-one ate. Rather than waste it, she put it on her back deck for critters to eat.

Later, when she asked her son Hayden to put out some peanut butter balls for the critters, he began to step outside when he saw an opossum I call, "Little Sally."

Little Sally, apparently a chocolate lover, was curled up on Kim's white sectional furniture, having eaten the plastic cover and nearly all the cake.

"She didn't look so great - she was kind of panting," Kim told The Washington Post. "I could not believe the whole cake was gone. I started thinking, 'Is chocolate poisonous for opossums?'"

Kim called the local Humane Society, and an animal control officer soon arrived to pick up Little Sally and take her to the Humane Society for an examination.

Little Sally was in good health but needed to be treated for gluttony and for lead poisoning in the soil.

She was transferred to the Baldwin Wildlife Center, Hubbard Family Wildlife Hospital where she received her treatments, and then was returned to the wild.

What did Kim learn from this experience? "I'm planning to pick up another Costco chocolate cake real soon," she told The Post. "I won't be leaving this one on the deck."
