Cab Driver Johnny MacLellan, who stunned a hospital with his $1.68 million donation.
The donation was the largest ever received by St. Martha's Regional Hospital Foundation, based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada.
So, who was Johnny and how did this happen?
(Story continues from "Read More")
Johnny was a cab driver in the charming little city of Antigonish.
Starting in 1946, he drove full-time, and before retiring in 2011 at age 89, he covered over three million miles, a devoted cabby for more than 60 years!

When Johnny started, wearing a uniform was mandatory, but as dress requirements were eased, he still wore a formal blue uniform, dress shirt and tie and cap throughout his career.
Driving was his great joy, and he loved people. His motto was "Safe, reliable and courteous."
In his personal life, Johnny never married, had no children, lived modestly, and saved his money.
Then in 2018, at 96, near his life's end, he wanted to leave his money where he felt it could help the most people.
So, he left it to St. Martha's Regional Hospital, their Foundation receiving his marvelous gift.
Johnny lived his last days in the hospital's palliative care unit, which is now "John MacLellan Palliative Care Unit," in his honor.
"His donation has impact now," said Sarah MacDonald, the Foundation Executive Director, "And for 25-years into the future."
This humble man who inspired others with his warm smile and friendliness, through his donation will help provide healthcare for those in need, and in some cases, even save their lives.
