11-year-old Evan Bisnauth: Helping hard-to-place shelter dogs find homes.
Two-years-ago, Evan's mom Amanda learned the animal shelter, Animal Care Centers of NYC had a special reading program.
In this program, children build their reading skills by reading to dogs, and through the children's attention, the dogs are nurtured and become more socialized and adoptable.
Evan loved that idea and on Saturdays he took the bus to the Manhattan shelter where he spent hours joyfully reading to the dogs.
"I'd tell them at the end of the story, 'Don't give up - I have a lot of hope for you and I know you'll get adopted,'" Evan told the Washington Post.
But then the pandemic hit!

While he could no longer visit his pet friends, he still wanted to help them find homes and created a Facebook page, "EB and the pets."
The shelter gave Evan photos of unwanted dogs desperate for good homes, as he began making brief videos, lovingly telling their stories.
One was for Marco:
"Marco is hoping for a helping hand and holding on to the dream that someone will give him a second chance," he wrote, along with an animated video of him interviewing Marco.
"He's scared and losing faith and will need someone to continue with training at a slow pace. He requires an adult only single dog home. Please click on the link in the bio to learn more and share his story!"
Evan loves these dogs and if he could, would take every dog home. But it's impossible, so helping them find loving homes is what he does.
"Someday, I want to have my own animal rescue and I'll take in every dog I find that needs help," he said.
"I'm still going to read books to them. Every single one."
