Trapped in a bucket of glue, a terrified kitten's life was saved, and he found a loving home.

A Good Samaritan saw the little kitten fighting for his life and rushed him to Houston's Humane Society of North Texas.

The medical team struggled to remove the glue which had hardened around his eyes, nose and mouth, making it extremely difficult for him to breathe, blink, eat or drink.

They cleansed the kitten with olive oil and dish soap, but this failed. Then they bathed him in two gallons of canola oil, which veterinarians rubbed into his fur, with great success.

Using a syringe, they also injected fluids into this dehydrated kitten, and against incredible odds he began to recover.

Once he was out of danger, this adorable kitten needed a name, so in honor of a popular brand of glue, the staff named him, Elmer.

The shelter shared Elmer's story on social media in mid-April, and hundreds of people expressed an interest in adopting this little guy.

Elmer found his forever home with Leah Owens, 72, who had fostered him while grieving the loss of her husband, Roger, who passed away in October, 2025.

Elmer brought her love and companionship and was a source of healing.

Already having three cats - Rickey, 14; Tarzana, 2; and Poppy, 11 months - Leah wasn't sure she wanted another one. But she and Elmer bonded.

When the shelter handed her Elmer, Leah's face lit up and she said, "Do you remember me, you little stinkpot?" Referring to her nickname for Elmer. "I love this little guy."

Adding, "He's going to be a spoiled little cat."
