Duval Pierre: Transforming a slum
Duval is a painter who, with thousands of other poor people, lives in Jalouzi, the largest slum in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
But he decided not to accept living in depressing slum conditions and is bringing change. What you will see may transform your thinking as it has many people in Jalouzi.

Duval took what used to be a giant collection of bleak gray cinder block houses, and set out to change the thinking of its residents.
How?
By persuading them to join him in painting their homes in bright, cheery colors so that the slum is no longer a depressing place to live, but one of hope and of possibilities.
“Imagine a world without color,” said Duval. “Imagine. That place is a place without joy … Color gives us dignity. Color gives us identity. Color gives us hope.”
