Doctor saves infant, then infant saves doctor.
Born prematurely on March 29th, 1981 and weighing just 3.2 pounds, Chris Trokey struggled for his life.
But his pediatrician, Dr. Michael Shannon, helped save him by working on him around the clock until Chris was stable, and out of danger.
Then 30-years-later, to the day, on March 29th, 2011, the story came full circle.
(Story continues from "Read More")
Dr. Shannon was driving his SUV in Dana Point, Calif. when it was hit by a semi-truck, pinned under the truck, and it caught on fire.
A fire crew and paramedics rushed to the scene.
Dr. Shannon’s SUV was ablaze, already burning his legs. The fire crew put out the flames and used the Jaws of Life to get him out of the vehicle.
The paramedics gave him emergency treatment and rushed him to the hospital, where he spent the next 45-days in recovery, losing two toes in the process.
Among the paramedics who helped rescue Dr. Shannon was Chris Trokey.
“And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, Dr. Shannon?’” said Chris to Los Angeles TV station KTLA four years later at a 2015 charity event he did with Dr. Shannon and others.
“It’s amazing to watch them all grow up,” said Dr. Shannon, but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it, that’s really incredible.”
As a final twist to this remarkable story, Dr. Shannon is now pediatrician to Chris Trokey’s son, as the circle of life continues.
