Josette Duran: Packing two lunches a day, one for her son, and one for his friend who can’t afford lunch.

Josette, of Albuquerque, New Mexico packed a lunch each day for Dylan, her 11-year-old son but then he began requesting more food.

She found out he was sharing his lunch with a friend who would otherwise go hungry and doubled up on his lunches.

But Josette was determined to help this boy for another very important reason:

“This hits home to me because a few years ago, me and my son were homeless,” she told KOAT News. “I was living in my car and I was washing him in bathrooms. And we didn’t have food.”

Today, as a girls’ sports coach at Hope Christian School, Josette is financially stable.

But this story gets even better. When her players and their parents heard of her generosity, they raised $400 to help.

In turn, Josette donated the money to the school cafeteria to pay back any past due accounts of other students in need, and to quietly pay for their lunches going forward.

“Now everyone can eat,” Josette proudly stated.
