Each day, Guadalupe, or Dona Lupita, as she is lovingly called, dresses in the school uniform of a black skirt and a white polo shirt, and happily joins her teenage classmates.

Dona Lupita came from a desperately poor family and school was not an option. Her childhood was spent working the fields, raising corn and beans.

As an adult, she married twice, and had six-children. To support her family, she sold chickens in the marketplace, and as she handled money, she learned arithmetic.

But Dona Lupita never learned to read or write and regretted being illiterate.

At 92, she enrolled in a literacy program.

But this was just the start. In 2015, Dona Lupita enrolled in an adult school program and in under four-years, finished primary and middle school.

Now in high school in the city of Tuxtla, in the state of Chiapas, she studies chemistry, math, and other academic subjects, as well as shaking her touché in a dance class.

What are her goals? To graduate from high school prior to her 100th birthday, and if possible, to become a kindergarten teacher.

Because of her age, the odds are stacked against her, but given what she has already achieved, anything seems possible for Dona Lupita.
